pH-responsive chitosan nanofilms crosslinked with genipin

Crosslinked chitosan-based nanofilms (thickness approximately 40 nm) were prepared using a naturally occurring and nontoxic reagent, genipin, the surface properties studied as function of crosslinking degree pH, by combining three techniques: dynamic contact angle sessile drops, quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) atomic force microscopy (AFM). The results showed pH-response these crosslinked chitosan nanofilms, which swelled at pH 3 shrank 6. This transition was facilitated crosslinking, although wettability, measurements, decreased crosslinking. QCM-D AFM used to study swelling capacity elastic demonstrating that response fully reversible between 6, but irreversible changes occurred 9. variations in frequency (?f) generated processes swelling/shrinkage (?D), related structure under different values.
